The kidney stone, I mean. In the left kidney of who this knitted vest was going to be for. The stone started forming about the time when I cast on stitches at the beginning of 2014. Although the diagnosis happened when I had finished the back, the stone could not have formed overnight, so that is my theory.

From beginning to end of the front left, it was four visits to the surgical unit and back home without the surgery actually happening. Heard many things for the first time: White Coat Syndrome, Lithotripsy, stent in the ureter etc. About when I was ready to cast off the left front was when the doctor came by the waiting room to give the good news. The procedure was finally successful this time and the stone was completely out.

It was recovery time throughout the time it took to finish the front right. As if to signify the trying times, this vest will never see the light of day. It turned out all wrong in terms of sizing. Although knitting the three pieces was a much needed therapy, the final garment looks like it will need someone twice his size to wear it. Analogous to how the stone was broken and flushed, I plan to rip this one and will have no regrets what so ever, affirming the fact that I need no memories of the pain of a loved one.
